April Reflections
Doing
Loving the rain in FL
The first week I was in Florida it rained every single day. Although I came back to New York almost as pale as I left, the rain was quite soothing and relaxing and did let up enough for a rainbow for us to take fun little walks on the beach
Seeing my childhood
I was gifted a trip to Orlando and Universal this month and OH - MY - GOD. My brother and I beelined to Harry Potter World and I shed actual tears walking into Diagon Alley. I was in constant awe the entire time we were there, and outside of Harry Potter World the rest of Universal is really impressive. 10/10 experience.
First Brunch of the season
The first day it hit above 60 degrees in NYC I had friends over for a brunch on a rooftop. Despite stronger winds than we had hoped for, the mimosas and breakfast snackings were enough to create a relaxing morning.
Reading
Becket ou l’Honneur de Dieu by Jean Anouilh
A History about Henri II and his friend that he ended up appointing Archbishop of Canterbury - reimagined in a very dramatic way. You can clearly follow the destruction of their friendship, from when they were as close as brothers to when they were almost mortal enemies. *I love Jean Anouilh one of my favorite plays is his re-write of Antigone and while Histories usually bore me this was quite entertaining.
Letters to a Young Poet by Rainer Maria Rilke
Another Cora shoutout as she lent me her favorite book to read and… holy moly. Tears were brought to my eyes five times in this short compilation of letters. Everyone should read this book and here is my favorite quote to explain why - “You are so young, so much before all beginning, and I would like to beg you [Dear Sir,] as well as I can, to have patience with everything unresolved in your heart and to try to love the questions themselves as if they were locked rooms or books written in a very foreign language.”
Daisy Darker by Alice Feeney
While I usually adore murder mysteries I was not the biggest fan of this one. It was a very interesting concept although there was an overload of description and (exposure). The ending though, seemed a little bit lazy; instead of something ingenious and technical Feeney veers toward the supernatural.
Seeing
The Good John Proctor
Big congratulations due to Talene Monahon on this show in coordination with Bedlam! What a fun show - this is an imagined scenario in which we see what happens in the lives of the girls involved in the trials detailed in The Crucible. Funny, sweet and dark, 3 qualities Talene does very well. In its entirety the show was amazing, from the acting to the set and lighting design. Well done!
Ted Lasso S3
I missed the Ted Lasso fam! Season 3 is back and bangin’ and the character development is… interesting. Will someone be a mother? Will Ted find love? Will the greyhounds ever win a fucking game? (Read that last part as Roy Kent) Who knows but the writers and based off of the last seasons, I trust them*. Nothing else to say- every aspect of this show is brilliant.
*The episodes were better when they were only 30 minutes long that’s my take.
BEEF
Witty, dark, relatable, and funny as fuck. Late to the party as always but watching BEEF was on my list I promise. It is so imaginative and explores dichotomies in families, economic status, religion, etc while taking the relationship between Danny Cho (Steven Yeun) and Amy Lau (Ali Wong) to the extreme. I highly recommend.
